7 Tactics You Need to Build a Content Marketing Plan

Did you know that 70% of people say they’d rather learn about new products and services through content such as social media, blogs, and video versus traditional advertising?

Yes, 70%! That is a significant number of people because it is human nature to want to talk to other people, not a faceless business that relies on traditional advertising that tends to ask for attention.

If you are a business owner or are responsible for a company’s marketing function, do you have a plan in place to manage your content marketing to build personal relationships? Many businesses do not. And with everything it takes to run a business, it’s no wonder.

Have no fear! Here are, tactics to help you build a content marketing plan:

  1. Identify which social media channel is best for your business. If you were at my presentation at SABA last month, we covered this. If not, you can download the slides here. (Hint: Not all channels are appropriate for every business.)

  2. Create a social media posting calendar that syncs with other marketing campaigns planned for the month and quarter. But leave room for spontaneity.

  3. Have a publishing strategy, not a channel strategy.

  4. Save time – identify digital and print pieces from your business that can be repurposed into social media posts.

  5. Repost business-related news and articles. What business-related outlets do you follow? If you find it valuable, your customers will too. Repurpose it; make sure you include the original link.

  6. Publish on nights and weekends: It will help your content stand out.

  7. 80% of posts should inform, educate, or entertain your audience. 20% of posts should directly promote your brand.

Use these tactics to build a firm content marketing base to compliment your business marketing strategy. We are here to help, too. Give us a call or shoot Lynn an email if you have questions or need inspiration!
